1) How do sessions actually work?
Lessons focus on: a) supporting students in relation to class work and texts
including the teaching of requisite language skills.
b) Assessment task preparation
c) Examination preparation including timed essay response training.******Nothing replaces practice in timed essay responses.

2) What approach is taken in analysing texts and teaching essay writing skills?

A structured relatively formulaic approach is offered. This ranges from practical analysis of technical craftsmanship used by composers within their text through to developing very specific prowess in timed essay writing skills. Offering insights in a straightforward and clear way assists students who are overwhelmed by English and/or have a strong Science/Maths bent.
3) Why do the majority of English Mastery students do so well?
4) Essentially nothing replaces the potency of competent 1:1 tuition where teaching is tailor-made for the individual student and dovetails with the BOS syllabus. Even the best classroom environment cannot compete with individual leverage of this nature.

Are study skills a part of English Mastery’s tuition program?

Study skills including mnemonics are taught. This allows students to find their best way of memorising and accessing information for essay writing. The mundane task of memorising facts for essays significantly leverages marks.

Your Teacher’s Background

Dr Jonathan Hardy brings academic credibility to his teaching. He has a PHD in English Literature, a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education (University of Tasmania). He attained a Master’s of Psychology from the (University of Newcastle 1993.) He has 25 years experience as a classroom teacher and has worked as a head teacher of English in both public and private schools in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. He synthesises expertise in adolescent psychology (including motivational techniques) with his teaching and love of English. He is a Senior HSC Marker and continues to teach Senior English in the classroom. Over the past 5 years he has focussed upon what he considers to be most worthwhile and most rewarding; developing a highly competent private teaching practice allowing students to attain brilliant English results, stunning UAI’s and realise their dreams.
