Dear Parents and Students,

A brief note to offer clarification regarding our timetable to assist with the planning of your commitments.

Normal tuition occurs on the Queens Birthday Weekend 9,10 and 11 June 2007. Tuition lessons follow NSW Department of School Education term dates. However English Mastery lessons conclude one day later on Saturday 30 June 2007.

As a result of a half-serious conversation with a colleague and as a result of some years of experience as a psychologist I remind year 12 that terms 2 and 3 are no dress rehearsal. Their performance right now matters. So no tyre kickers. You really must make a decision to work right now. Somehow.

Mind you as a psychologist I was supposed to communicate in a lot softer fashion than telling people to get on with things. Not sure the softer option always worked though:)

Dear Parents and Students

Welcome Back to Terms 2 and 3, certainly the most challenging in the HSC year yet with the promise of the end in sight. The ‘edge’ that exists is a positive element as it can act as a lever to pursue optimum results. The onset of adrenalin defeats procrastination.
We follow a tried and proven formula that has worked for the past 5 years. It culminated in last year’s results. We attained two near perfect UAI scores. These echo Sally Ivimey's brilliance of 99.9 and Dux of school in 2005 (no problems with choice here!)

The comparative module is arguably the most challenging module in the entire HSC English course.

If there were one tip and one tip only that I could give for this unit it is….. at all costs know both texts well and be able to focus on the techniques each writer uses to embrace the concept that they explore. For example in Brave New World and Blade Runner we want to know HOW these writers deal with the concept of ‘In The Wild.’ Techniques and their effect upon the responder are everything!

Most year 12's will be undertaking a synthesis task on Journeys in the imminent half yearlies.

Tip the balance in your favour. Make simple comments about how each text is similar or different from the other.

Text A makes a very different point around imaginative jouney in conveying the idea that.............

Or Text B echoes the ideas focussed upon in text A by referring to the surreal...... and how fragmented the physical journey can be.
